Being still in God's presence

Light a candle

When we light a candle we might be...

remembering that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World...

Consciously opening our hearts up to God...

Marking the formal start of our prayer time...

And many other possibilities!

Settling in

God wants to make us welcome. Maybe you will choose somewhere comfortable to settle and simply let go of the anxieties of the previous hours. Pay attention to your breathing, and as you breathe in and out maybe  pray rhythmically:

Jesus,

Son of God,

Have mercy on me,

a sinner.

Reviewing the previous day

When you are ready, replay the previous day in your mind, looking for the moments that gave you joy.

Pause to thank God for his blessings.

Now replay the day again, asking God to reveal to you those times when you did not thrive, but without judging yourself.  Pause to show your hurts to the God who heals.

Feel God's love and forgiveness for anything that is troubling your conscience.

When you are ready, ask God to be with you in the time ahead in the prayer room.

Exploring the room

Take some time to browse round the other sections of the website and see what other people have contributed so far. expect this to grow as the week progresses!

Give thanks for the insights you discover and for the prayers of others.

Choose a short introductory sentence

Here are a few sentences to help you settle in. Choose one to reflect on for a few moments, and move on whenever you feel ready...

In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength (Isaiah 30:15).

You, Lord, will bless the righteous; you will surround them with favour as with a shield...(Psalm 5 : 12)

Jesus said, " If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink" (Jn 7 : 37b)

Jesus said, "I am the light of the world.."(Jn 8 : 12)

Just as you received Christ Jesus as LORD, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. (Col. 2 : 6)

Actions to help you let go and let God

Sometimes we symbolically need to let go of our preoccupations.

Maybe begin by switching off your phone

Take off your shoes (for this is holy space)

Clear your worship space of anything that might distract

Perhaps place a helpful focus in the centre - maybe a Bible, or a candle, icon, cross, or anything else that you think of as a reminder of your faith.
